A thoughtfully designed extension to a chalet bungalow, this project reimagined the home’s layout to create a bright, open-plan kitchen, dining and living area that connects seamlessly to the garden. The new space introduces a sense of flow and functionality, allowing for relaxed everyday living and effortless entertaining, all while maximising natural light and the home’s relationship with its outdoor space.
DESIGN AND APPROACH
This project involved a carefully considered extension to a chalet-style bungalow, designed to create a bright, open-plan living space that would better suit modern family life. The new layout introduced a kitchen, dining and living zone with clear sightlines to the garden, as well as a separate utility area to keep day-to-day life running smoothly. Upstairs, we added a new double bedroom with a private ensuite, bringing both space and functionality to the home. A simple, timeless material palette was selected in collaboration with the client to keep the space feeling warm, contemporary and enduring.
KEY FEATURES
Open-Plan Living Space - The extension created a spacious, light-filled kitchen, dining and living area—perfect for modern family life and entertaining, with direct access to the garden.
Utility Room - A dedicated utility space was added to keep the main living areas clutter-free, offering practical storage and laundry facilities tucked neatly away.
New Double Bedroom with Ensuite - Upstairs, the home gained a generous double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, adding flexibility for guests or growing family needs.
Bespoke Wardrobe - Tailored carpentry delivered a custom-built wardrobe solution, making the most of available space while adding a touch of craftsmanship to the bedroom.
Origin Bifold Doors and Windows - High-performance Origin products were specified to introduce natural light, maximise garden views, and create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection.
Landscaping Works - Complementary landscaping helped settle the new extension into the garden, enhancing the home’s overall flow and liveability.
High-Quality Finishes and Suppliers - From Amtico flooring to Wienerberger bricks and a carefully chosen wood-burning stove, the project featured top-tier finishes and trusted local suppliers throughout
SITE CONSIDERATIONS AND PLANNING CONSTRAINTS
This project involved several key considerations to ensure a seamless build:
Structural integration: Ensuring the extension connected harmoniously to the existing building while maintaining a clean architectural line
Material coordination: Wienerberger bricks were used to match the existing, helping the new work sit comfortably alongside the old
Supplier collaboration: Close coordination with trusted suppliers—including WTM Heating Services, CDC Electrical, Amtico Flooring and Crabbes Carpentry—ensured high-quality delivery throughout
Finishing touches: A bespoke wardrobe and carefully sourced wood-burning stove added character and functionality
